Borrowing library materials is a privilege, not a right.
A Library card will be issued to any adult borrower (age 18 and over) who has valid identification listing a current address. Patrons under 18 years of age must present a juvenile application signed by a parent or guardian.
Library cards will be issued to anyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Herkimer, Oneida, or Madison Counties.
Borrowing privileges extend to all library materials and will only be revoked if the patron refuses to return overdue materials or accrues excessive unpaid fines. If a patron’s fine reaches $3.00 or more, their borrowing and computer use privileges will be blocked. Please ask at the main desk about how to pay down fines.
A library card might not be issued right away if further verification is needed or a decision about the application is needed from the Library Director or Assistant Director.
Borrowers may request up to three replacement cards per year at a cost determined by the Trustees.
The first time a card is used, two items may be checked out. This policy is set by the Mid-York System.
Borrowers at the Frank J. Basloe Library may check out up to 40 items at a time. Other libraries in the Mid-York System may have different limits. Please check individual library’s lending policies.
